Mastering Momentum: Navigating a Whirlwind of Marketing Success – Symplicity Conversations Ep. 44

Symplicity’s Stellar September: Tech Week, ArtPrize, and Advancements with Ted Danson

Explore how Symplicity navigated a whirlwind month of events with meticulous planning, effective communication, and a touch of spontaneity.

Behind the Scenes: Planning for Tech Week and ArtPrize

September was nothing short of a high-octane month for Symplicity Communications, and much of it boiled down to planning and preparation. Tech Week GR 2025 was a massive event in Grand Rapids, Michigan with over 120 activities. Not only would the Symplicity team be attending multiple events throughout the week, but they were sponsoring and speaking at an event, holding a kick-off happy hour, and hosting an event of their own. The team knew early on that meticulous planning would be critical to keeping the week going smooth and successful, and they started laying the groundwork as early as spring. The goal was not just to participate but to make a meaningful impact and Doug Seites, Director of Marketing, emphasized that the key to managing such a packed schedule was clear communication and detailed planning.

ArtPrize added another layer of excitement and complexity. Symplicity’s office became an ArtPrize venue, hosting Ted Loomis and his interactive art piece, “Kiawa.” The team had to ensure that everything from the setup to daily operations ran smoothly. This meant coordinating with artists, setting up the space, and managing foot traffic—all while keeping the business running.

Creative Wins and Challenges During a Busy Season

The success of Tech Week and ArtPrize wasn’t without its challenges. The team had to strike a balance between giving each event its moment in the spotlight while also preparing for the next big thing. This required a lot of strategic thinking and flexibility.

One of the creative wins was the Happy Hour event with the Tech Week Kickoff with Steve Wozniak. The team brought nearly 30 people to the event, thanks to some fantastic sponsors. The experience was enriched with engaging storytelling from Wozniak and invaluable networking opportunities. Another highlight was Symplicity’s hosted event, a data and analytics discussion featuring Roberta McCarter from Novus Data Journey. The session was packed, and the audience was deeply engaged, proving that the topic resonated well with the attendees.

National Spotlight: Advancements with Ted Danson

Just when they thought things couldn’t get more exciting, Symplicity was featured on the show, Advancements with Ted Danson. Initially, it seemed almost too good to be true, but after some verification, it was all systems go. The segment focused on digital transformation but uniquely highlighted women in technology, a theme close to the hearts of the team at Symplicity.

The team discussed customer experience, automation, and the importance of inclusion in technology. The episode premiered on Bloomberg in September and will soon be available on Amazon Prime, making it a gift that keeps on giving in terms of exposure and credibility.

Key Takeaways: Effective Strategies for Event Success

Reflecting on this whirlwind month, several key strategies emerged as crucial for success. First and foremost, strong and detailed planning cannot be overstated. By laying the groundwork months in advance, the team could focus on execution without unnecessary stress. Effective communication was another cornerstone; keeping everyone in the loop ensured that there were no last-minute surprises.

Flexibility also played a significant role. Despite the best-laid plans, things can change, and being able to adapt is essential. The team’s ability to pivot quickly when the Advancements episode air date was moved up is a prime example of this. Finally, the importance of community engagement stood out. Being an ArtPrize venue allowed Symplicity to connect with the local community in ways that traditional marketing could never achieve.
